recette du jour: ketchup chicken

Now that I live on my own, I can finally utilize my housewife instincts and experiment in the kitchen. Even though I am not culinary inclined to design my own recipes, I want to share with everyone recipes I have learned from others and possibly majority from Cookpad.

Let's start off with something easy. Actually, let me just say that everything I cook is basically simple and to the point. I don't deal with recipes that require ingredients that are difficult to get a hold of such as obscure spices and any internal organs (I'm not fond of liver, heart, etc.) For dinner last night, I whipped up a quick salad and cooked some steamed rice and paired it with this dish:

Ketchup Chicken

A recipe taught to me by my cousin. It's not exactly what you might think it is--

Servings: 2

Ingredients:

For the sauce//
  • 3 tbsp of ketchup
  • 2 tbsp of Japanese sauce (preferably Bull Dog)
  • White wine (*According to your preference. The recipe can do without this ingredient, though.)
  • 1 tsp of soy sauce
  • 1 tsp of vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp of granulated sugar
  • Chicken breast good for two people (sorry, I don't measure ><)
  • About 1~3 tablespoons of flour
  • Pinch of pepper

    Seasoning&garnishings//
  • 1/3 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • A pinch or so of dried parsley
  • Chopped strips of cabbage for sheeting under the chicken.
1. Massage in pepper into chicken breast (the chicken can be cut up into bit size pieces or to the size of you desire). Let it sit for a bit.

2. For the sauce, mix in soy sauce, vinegar, ketchup, Japanese sauce, sugar and wine. Mix thoroughly.

3. Mince garlic cloves and onions. Set aside.

4. In a medium sized mixing bowl, pour in flour and then coat each piece of chicken lightly and set it on a clean plate.

5. Heat up cooking oil on a frying pan on medium heat. Gently place each piece of chicken and cook until the color has changed.
6. Push aside the chicken to one side of the pan and use the excess oil to fry the onions and garlic until golden brown then mix it into the chicken.
7. Turn off the stove and pour the sauce on the chicken and turn the heat back on to medium and start mixing it around. Make sure chicken pieces are fully coated with the sauce. Toss for about 1~2 mins.

8. Place the finished chicken on a plate sheeted with cabbage then pour the excess sauce on top.
Sprinkle some parsley on top and you're all done!

Enjoy. :)

And thanks new followers :)

Nom nom food post! *_*;

I love cooking! I actually like cooking the food more than eating it - lol. Which is quite weird as I'm the ultimate food LOVER! I'm not personally that fond of ketchup, but my older brother + dad + majority of my friends LOVE it. I can't wait to move out and make lots of food for people! Haha, I shall invite people over for dinner AT LEAST twice a week! Just for the heck of it! xD
Too bad most recipes are too much of a hassle for just one person >_<"
